Join us tonight for the event, “How to be Politically Active in 2010,” which will be held at the Phoenix Theatre at 7pm. Whether you want to be an activist on the forefront of LGBT issues or you wish to provide quiet support for the movement, this seminar will explore efforts past and present to see where we all fit into the political spectrum.
Any discussion of LGBT politics would not be complete without Harvey Milk. Even though he was assassinated almost 32 years ago, no one, past or present, casts a larger shadow on GLBT rights as a political movement, and we will begin the discussion with the Academy Award winning documentary, “The Times of Harvey Milk,” brought to you by the Indianapolis LGBT Film Festival. The film documents the political career of Milk, who was San Francisco’s first openly gay supervisor (like Indianapolis’ City-County Council), and for anyone who has seen the recent movie starring Sean Penn, it will be a great enhancement to that story.
After viewing the documentary, Indiana Equality will moderate a discussion with the audience that will also include representatives of the Stonewall Democrats, Log Cabin Republicans, Libertarian Party, and the Green Party. This will be a very important event in the course of Circle City IN Pride 2010, and we hope that you will join us for this unprecedented seminar.
This is a collaboration between Indy Pride, Step-Up, the Indianapolis LGBT Film Festival, and Indiana Equality. It is a free event.
